Patricia Spottedcrow a 25 year old Oklahoma mother of four children has been sentenced as a first time felony offender to 12 years imprisonment for the sale of $31 worth of marijuana to an undercover police officer. Spottedcrow had been arrested with two other of her family members, her mother received lengthy probation on more serious charges, and her brother also probation of lesser charges. Spottedcrow however failed to show the necessary remorse to satisfy Judge Susie Pritchett. Pritchett was quoted saying the "sentence fit the crime" as "Ms. Spottedcrow showed no signs of remorse, nor did she seem to even care about what she was doing to her children”. Spottedcrow’s four children are now being cared for by her ‘accomplice’ mother, who can’t afford the costs to visit the prison. Ian Tomlinson the 47 year old Englishman who died when on his way home from work as a newspaper vendor in the midst of the 2009 G-20 summit protests, has been found by an inquest jury to have been unlawfully killed by excessive and unreasonable force by a police officer PC Simon Harwood. A first postmortem indicated he had died from a heart attack; however a video of the incident showed Tomlinson walking with his hands in his pockets being stuck from behind by the police officer wielding a baton, then pushed to the ground without provocation. A second post mortem revealed he had died from internal bleeding caused by blunt force trauma to the abdomen. The incident had created intense debate in the UK leading to a deterioration of respect for police by the general public.
