Suzanne Goldenberg the British environment correspondent based in Washington DC, award winning writer and author of Madam President, about Hillary Clinton's historic run for White House, has published an article on Mother Jones titled ‘Billionaires Secretly Funded Vast Climate Denial Network’ referring to how the conservative dark-money group ‘Donors Trust’ contributed huge sums to battle against climate-change science. Goldenberg states “Conservative billionaires used a secretive funding route to channel nearly $120 million to more than 100 groups casting doubt about the science behind climate change … helped build a vast network of think tanks and activist groups working to a single purpose: to redefine climate change from neutral scientific fact to a highly polarizing "wedge issue" for hardcore conservatives. The millions were routed through two trusts, Donors Trust and the Donors Capital Fund, operating out of a generic town house in the northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. Donors Capital caters to those making donations of $1 million or more. …By 2010, the dark money amounted to $118 million distributed to 102 think tanks or action groups which have a record of denying the existence of a human factor in climate change, or opposing environmental regulations. The money flowed to Washington think tanks embedded in Republican party politics, obscure policy forums in Alaska and Tennessee, contrarian scientists at Harvard and lesser institutions, even to buy up DVDs of a film attacking Al Gore. The ready stream of cash set off a conservative backlash against Barack Obama's environmental agenda that wrecked any chance of Congress taking action on climate change. Those same groups are now mobilizing against Obama's efforts to act on climate change in his second term. A top recipient of the secret funds … put out a point-by-point critique of the climate content in the president's State of the Union address.” Inspired by Suzanne Goldenberg, Mother Jones ow.ly/i0XBB Image source YouTube ow.ly/i0ZjU Wedge issue for hardcore conservatives (March 13 2013)

Willard Mitt Romney the 65 year old US businessman, politician and 2012 Republican Party presidential candidate and likely nominee has been profiled by Bob Abeshouse on Aljazeera on the likely effect of his being Mormon on his race for the White House. Abeshouse states, “…a significant minority say that they would think twice about voting for a Mormon as president. Evangelical Christians are especially concerned, with some believing that Mormonism is more a cult than a mainstream Christian creed. Others fear a Romney administration would be unduly influenced by the church’s attitude to such matters as polygamy, gay rights and abortion… Evangelical Christians in the US have had a long competition with Mormons for converts. Evangelicals regard the idea that humans can progress to godhood as blasphemous, and take issue with many Mormon practices and doctrines, such as so-called endowment rites. In these temple rituals Mormons pass between rooms representing different stages of the eternal progression they believe all humans participate in – from the Garden of Eden to the earthly world to celestial heaven… Romney has done his best to avoid all discussion of his Mormon faith in the 2012 race. …his Mormonism could be “the x-factor” that costs him the election in a tight race against Barack Obama for the White House in November.”

Lonnie Rashid Lynn, known by his stage name ‘Common’, the 38 year old US hip hop artist and black power advocate, has become the centre of a controversy between the White House and right wing extremist commentators. ‘Common’ at the invitation of First Lady Michelle Obama appeared at the White House for a poetry reading, resulting in an outcry over the lyrics of his songs that provide support to specific convicted killers in which the evidence leading to their convictions being somewhat questionable. While most commentators have described ‘Common’ as progressive and positive, the more extremist find cause to be outraged over the lyrics of a couple of songs taken out of context of his overall prolific body of work known for its socially consciousness. William Michael Daley the 52 year old American lawyer and business executive has been announced by President Barack Obama that he would become White House Chief of Staff Close ties to big banks and big business (January 8 2011)

William Michael Daley the 52 year old American lawyer and business executive has been announced by President Barack Obama that he would become White House Chief of Staff to succeed Rahm Emanuel. Daley previously had served as Secretary of Commerce in the second administration of President Bill Clinton, and named to the advisory board of the Obama-Biden Transition Project. Regarded as a Democratic centrist, Daley is perceived to bring a business acumen to the White House, providing Obama with advice on economic matters for which he has faced strong criticisms as being anti business. His appointment is bringing criticism from progressives who are skeptical of Daley’s finance business background, and his urgings for the administration to move toward the political center.

My digital art work is about iconic people, places and events of our day.  Recorded visually through daily compilations of manipulated digital images, posted online and disseminated via online media and social networks. The works are diaristic in nature that metaphorically record a spectators experience of the contemporary digital age.  The resulting work intentionally has a painterly aesthetic acknowledging my historical painting practice.
