Calvin Gibbs the 26 year old US Army Staff Sergeant known as the ringleader of the ‘kill team’, a rogue army platoon in Afghanistan has been convicted of murder and will be released in less than nine years with parole. A court martial hearing resulted in Gibbs being convicted on fifteen charges including three of premeditated murder, and the use of medical shears to sever fingers from his unarmed victims, keeping them as a form of trophy collection. During the military trial, the prosecutor informed the jury panel that Gibbs had often referred to the Afghan people as savages, “These people are all savages, look at how they live”, then setting about to disguise the murders as legitimate combat kills with the use of ‘drop’ weapons to make it appear the victims were armed.

Anthony Garcia a Pico Rivera gangster, who had been arrested and released on a minor offense, was identified to a murder crime scene by a homicide investigator from his tattooed upper body mug shot. Inked onto his chest was a liquor store murder scene, containing details known only to investigators and the murderer. Garcia has finally been convicted of the 2004 murder of a then 23 year old gang rival. A recorded confession had been obtained after an undercover detective posing as another gang member was placed in the same prison cell as Garcia, recording his proud boasting of the shooting crime. The homicide investigator Kevin Lloyd, who had been present at the liquor store crime scene, had stumbled upon the mug shot by accident and identified the components within the photograph.
