Jason Leopold the American investigative reporter, author of the Los Angeles Times bestseller ‘News Junkie - a memoir’ and the current deputy managing editor of Truthout has published an article titled ‘Guantanamo Hunger Strike "Potentially Life-Threatening" Attorneys Allege in Letter to Prison Officials’. Leopold states “…One prisoner who has experienced dramatic weight loss is 37-year-old Fayiz al-Kandari, a Kuwaiti who has been detained at Guantanamo for nearly 11 years. His military attorney, Air Force Lt. Col. Barry Wingard, told Truthout Tuesday that al-Kandari has lost roughly 26 pounds and another Kuwaiti prisoner, Fawzi al-Ohda, 24 pounds since they began hunger striking three weeks ago. Wingard, who is currently at Guantanamo visiting with his client, said neither prisoner has been "tubed yet." Wingard said al-Kandari was "unfocused and had difficulty focusing on our various discussions." On a Facebook page set up for al-Kandari and al-Ohda, 35, a post dated February 28 claimed Guantanamo guards were taunting the hunger strikers. "In response to the hunger strike, soldiers opened containers of food so the smell could fill the prison," the Facebook post alleges. "The prisoners were then asked if they wanted one or two servings of food. The response with a big smile: 'Do you really think the smell of your food is stronger than our religion?'" …"There is a real sense of frustration and desperation beginning to sink in here," Wingard said. "I believe the bigger problem is that the 30- to 40-year-old men have decided not to passively die in animal cages without an opportunity to represent themselves, now well into their twelfth year. For them, any hope of justice has long since faded and death is looking like the only road out of Guantanamo." In January, the State Department shut down the office that was set up to close Guantanamo and repatriate the prisoners who have been cleared for release.” Inspired by Jason Leopold, Truthout ow.ly/j4lbx Image source Facebook ow.ly/j4lFl Decided not to passively die in animal cages (April 1 2013)

Lee Fang the American investigative reporter and blogger has published an article in The Nation Magazine titled ‘Does the NRA Represent Gun Manufacturers or Gun Owners?’ Fang states “Over the last four years, Congress and the Obama administration have only enacted laws that have deregulated gun use in America. It’s no secret why. As pundits love to note, the gun lobby is incredibly influential. But as we consider the potential for reform … one of the first questions we should ask this time is: who does the gun lobby really represent? The National Rifle Association portrays itself as an organization that represents “4 million members” who simply love the Second Amendment. The truth is much more murky. In reality, the NRA is composed of half a dozen legal entities; some designed to run undisclosed attack ads in political campaigns, others to lobby and collect tens of millions in undisclosed, tax-deductible sums. …Despite the grassroots façade, there is much evidence to suggest that corporations that profit from unregulated gun use are propping up the NRA’s activities, much like how the tobacco lobby secretly funded “Smokers Rights’” fronts and libertarian anti-tax groups, or how polluters currently finance much of the climate change skepticism movement. …The Violence Policy Center has estimated that since 2005, gun manufacturers have contributed up to $38.9 million to the NRA. Those numbers, however, are based on publicly listed “sponsorship” levels on NRA fundraising pamphlets. The real figures could be much bigger. Like Crossroads GPS or Americans for Prosperity, or the Sierra Club for that matter, the NRA does not disclose any donor information even though it spends millions on federal elections. And like other industry fronts, the NRA is quick to conceal its pro–gun industry policy positions as ideological commitments.” Inspired by The Nation ow.ly/gdIgD image source Verum Serum ow.ly/gdIc8 NRA Represent Gun Manufacturers (December 26 2012)

Robert Upshur Woodward the 67 year old investigative reporter of Watergate fame Legacy will be his failure to accept responsibility (March 13 2011)

Robert Upshur Woodward the 67 year old investigative reporter of Watergate fame with the Washington Post has lashed out at Donald Rumsfeld’s new book ‘Known and Unknown’ claiming the memoir is an effort to clean up his mess and distort history by shift blame to others including the then president George W Bush. Woodward claims Rumsfeld ignores the historic record or just avoids discussing issues that he can’t do a white wash over. Woodward notes many instances of where Rumsfeld fails to accept responsibility for his actions or lack off, and believes that when all the records are finally released his likely legacy will be his failure to accept responsibility.
