Réjean Hinse the 73 year old Québec citizen who was falsely convicted of undertaking an armed robbery on a general store 50 years ago, has at last won his legal battle for compensation totaling $13.1-million from the Québec and Canadian Federal governments. Despite several court rulings that have quashed his conviction on the basis of a botched investigation and that he was 200km away in another city at the time of the robbery, he has never received an apology for lost life in prison. Hinse likened his psychological condition in prison to Edvard Munch’s painting ‘The Scream’, claiming after the sentence his headaches were unbearable, with the only way to cope with the pain being to bang his head against the stone wall a little harder each time.
