Jose Antonio Vargas the 30 year old Filipino Pulitzer Prize winning journalist residing since the age of 12 and working in the USA, has revealed he is an undocumented immigrant at the risk of deportation. Vargas who had kept his immigration status secret, pursued his education with help of friends and teachers with the use of a false passport and green card. Vargas founded the Define America project to facilitate dialogue to enable individuals achieve citizenship through education or military service. Vargas revealed he had spent years hiding his illegal status, outed himself in hope he may raise awareness of the issues confronting undocumented innocent children brought to the country.
